She considers that information literacy is one of key competences in the twenty-first century and a "must" for individuals to live efficiently and enjoy equal opportunities. The school library plays a vital role in achieving information literacy goals because it develops certain skills such as how to search, select, use and present information independently, which are skills that secondary school students would need in various real- life situations. In order to attain this goal, the school library offers carefully prepared information literacy programmes and develops other literacy skills whose aim is to promote and nurture reading culture. Every school library organizes projects that enable the development of both information literacy and other types of literacy as well. The article emphasizes the development of information literacy through writing a term paper, which leads secondary school students to explore and consequently develop critical thinking</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Ena izmed nepogrešljivih kompetenc vsakega posameznika za učinkovito in enakopravno življenje v družbi 21. stoletja je informacijska pismenost. Pri doseganju ciljev informacijskega opismenjevanja ima pomembno vlogo tudi šolska knjižnica, ki s skrbno načrtovanim naborom knjižničnega gradiva, s svojimi raznovrstnimi storitvami, usmerjenimi k spodbujanju branja in utrjevanju bralne kulture ter s programom knjižnično informacijsko znanje omogoča razvijanje veščin samostojnega iskanja, izbiranja, uporabe in predstavitve informacij, ki jih bodo njeni uporabniki, učenci ali dijaki, potrebovali v različnih življenjskih situacijah. Vsaka šolska knjižnica s svojimi dejavnostmi nudi možnosti za razvijanje tako informacijske, kot tudi drugih pismenosti. Avtorica pri podajanju pogleda na pomen in preplet pismenosti izhaja iz svojega dela v srednješolski knjižnici.
