The diversity of forest communities and stands relates to natural characteristics, carbonate-silicate geological bedrock, and very steep slopes but also settling in a late time period and the total abandonment of the settlements fifty or more years ago. Once intensely felled beech stands now develop according to the laws of nature and are more radically affected by sleet and windthrow. Pioneer shrubs and forests are diverse regarding their structure and species composition. In the vicinity of the former residences, majestic old trees, Scots elm, common ash, and spruce are situated; on the former fields, a walnut forest is developing. The gorge is a nature’s value; we suggest considering its entire river basin as such"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Članek vsebuje opis značilnosti rastlinstva in živalstva odmaknjene, le po stezah dostopne in skoraj povsem gozdnate grape v zahodni Sloveniji. Raznolikost gozdnih združb in sestojev je povezana z naravnimi značilnostmi, karbonatno-silikatno geološko podlago in velikimi strminami, a tudi s pozno poselitvijo in popolnim izumrtjem zaselkov pred petdesetimi leti in več. Bukovi sestoji, ki so jih nekoč zelo sekali, se že dolgo razvijajo po naravnih zakonitostih, nanje koreniteje vplivajo pred vsem vetrolomi in žled. Pionirska grmišča in gozdovi so raznoliki po zgradbi in vrstni sestavi. V bližini nekdanjih bivališč so mogočna stara drevesa, gorski bresti, veliki jeseni in smreke, na nekdanjih njivah nastaja orehov gozd.
