Considering the Slovene environment it can be said that the social status of a Slovenian farmer has a number of challenges to face today that are shown both at normative as well as practical level. First of all, there is a need to treat a family farm as a whole, i.e. as a uniform business entity. A non-regulated legal status forces farmers to treat the socio-economic status issues of the persons working at the farm individually. As a result, farmers often decide on a solution (e.g. conclusion of pension insurance) that fits an individual, but not necessarily the farm as a whole. This also includes settling the issue of uninsured farm members who are, most often, women at a farm and/or young members of a farm. Secondly, farmers are poorly informed of the meaning and content of social insurances. Frequently, farmers do not know or understand what it means to conclude a certain type of insurance, in particular what rights they have upon the occurrence of a social case. The institutions implementing the state insurance system are not obliged to advise farmers regarding their inclusion in insurance schemes and, at the same time, there is a distinct lack of other sources of information, e.g. by NGOs and professional associations. The introduction of any changes affecting the employment and/or social status of a farmer should be handled with extreme care. It is important to select an appropriate communication medium for changes and to provide information to farmers in a manner comprehensible to themPrimerjalna analiza socialnega položaja kmeta v Sloveniji kaže na potrebo po določenih zakonskih spremembah s ciljem večje vključenosti kmetov in njihovih družinskih članov v socialna zavarovanja.
