The study aimed to investigate the age of acquisition for the first five words Slovenian-speaking infants and toddlers say and the lexical and semantical characteristics of those words. Methods: An online survey was conducted with 126 parents of Slovenian preschool children about early expressive vocabulary. The survey focused on the first five words and the age at which these words were said. Results: The analysis of parental responses showed that the first word in more than half of infants and toddlers occurred before their first birthday. The vast majority, 90 % of toddlers in our sample, had already said at least five words before the age of 18 months. Nouns were the most common word class, followed by verbs and adverbs. Conclusion: The research provides an insight into the understanding of fundamental questions on expressive vocabulary acquisition of typically developing Slovenian-speaking infants and toddlers. Furthermore, it provides a good foundation for further research and clinical practice with children involved in speech and language therapy</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Izhodišča: Trenutek, ko dojenček ali malček spregovori prvo besedo, je nepozaben za starše in hkrati pomemben pokazatelj jezikovnega, socialnega in konceptualnega razvoja. Zaključek: Raziskava ponuja vpogled in nam olajša razumevanje temeljnih vprašanj o usvajanju ekspresivnega besednjaka slovensko govorečih dojenčkov in malčkov v pričakovanem razvoju. Hkrati nam to ponuja dobro izhodišče za nadaljnje raziskovalno in klinično delo z otroki, ki se vključujejo v logopedsko obravnavo</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:doc-D5VZZ204"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:doc-D5VZZ204" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:doc-D5VZZ204/2a484d8f-787d-4ae5-9562-a6c8033d5ddb/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Univerzitetni rehabilitacijski inštitut RS – Soča</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:doc-D5VZZ204/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-D5VZZ204" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
