Both areas are located in the north-western part of Slovenia. Red deer population with higher population density was studied in the area of the eastern Karavanke Mountains, while the population with lower density was studied in the area of the Jelovica mountain plateau. The dynamics of carcass mass increase with age is similar in both populations. The average values of carcass mass in the population of the Karavanke Mountains are lower in all age classes with the exception of the class of 5 - 9 year old females. In this area, the carcass mass significantly depends on the age of the animal and on the month of shooting. In the fall to winter period the carcass mass of young animals in Karavanke area increases slower and the carcass mass of older animals decreases faster than the ones in the Jelovica area. The carcass mass of malesdecrease more intensely than the carcass mass of females. The fall to winter trend of carcass mass decrease among middle age and older males is higher compared to younger males. Among females in the Karavanke area the highest carcass mass decrease is detected in the middle age class. The mass ofthe antlers in both populations depends upon age and carcass mass. When taking into account the influence of age and month of shooting while excludingcarcass mass, the antler mass does not differ between both studied areas. If we consider the influence of carcass mass, which is higher in the Jelovica area, the differences between the two areas are significant in all age classes of males. Winter mortality does not differ between the areas in structure, nor in proportionate values with regard to shooting ratio. We have established that red deer population reflects a high level of plasticity in adapting to various living conditions with morphological changes"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Analiza obravnava telesno maso in maso rogovja 2547 uplenjenih živali v dveh območjih z različno gostoto poseljenosti z jelenjadjo v SZ delu Slovenije. Jelenjad z večjo gostoto smo proučevali na območju vzhodnih Karavank, jelenjadz manjšo gostoto pa na območju Jelovice. Dinamika naraščanja telesnih mas s starostjo je med obema populacijama podobna. Povprečne vrednosti telesnih mas so v Karavankah nižje v vseh starostnih razredih razen v razredu 5-9 letnih košut. Poleg od starosti je v tem območju značilna tudi odvisnost telesne mase od meseca uplenitve. Med jesenjo in zimo pri mladih živalih telesne mase v Karavankah počasneje naraščajo, pri starejših živalih pa hitreje upadajo kot na Jelovici. Telesne mase samcev se močneje znižujejo v primerjavi z masami samic. Jesensko zimski trend upadanja telesnih mas srednjestarih in starejših samcev je večji od mlajših samcev. Pri samicah v Karavankah je največje upadanje zaznati v razredu srednjestarih živali. Masa rogovja je v obeh populacijah odvisna od starosti in telesne mase. Ob upoštevanju starosti in meseca uplenitve ter izključitvi telesne mase se mase rogovja med območjema ne razlikujejo. Ob vključitvi vpliva telesne mase, ki paje večja na Jelovici, so razlike med območjema značilne v vseh starostnih razredih samcev. Zimska mortaliteta se v deležu, glede na odstrel, kot tudi v strukturi med območjema ne razlikuje.
