The author analyses the elderly partly as patients, but mainly as medical practitioners of both official and traditional medicine. In observing various discourses (scientific, popular, newspaper, literary, moral and others) in the Slovenian lands, and especially in the Istria region, it is possible to extract both negative and positive connotations attributed to old age and the elderly, which are also closely linked to other analytical categories such as gender, profession, and social status"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Prispevek na primeru področja zdravja in zdravljenja obravnava reprezentacije, pomene in percepcije starosti v 19. stoletju. Avtorica opazuje ostarele v vlogi pacientov, še zlasti pa v vlogi izvajalcev zdravljenja – tako predstavnikov uradne kot tradicionalne medicine.
