The aim of the study was to determine if kinesio taping increases activity of the vastus medialis obliquus muscle in these patients. Methods: We applied kinesio tape on the vastus medialis obliquus muscle and measured electrical activity with surface electromyography in eight patients (3 male and 5 female). Their average age was 43 years (range 20 to 60 years). We measured average maximal contraction of vastus medialis obliquus muscle at four time points: before kinesio taping, 10 minutes after kinesio taping, after one hour and 24 hours after kinesio taping. Results: We observed statistically significant improvement of vastus medialis obliquus muscle activity. Ten minutes after kinesio taping the mean electrical activity of the muscle was 94.7 $\mu$V (range 27.6 - 184.8 $\mu$V); after one hour it was 98.7 $\mu$V (range 37.5 - 214.4 $\mu$V); and 24 hours after kinesio taping it was 118,4 $\mu$V (range 40.6 - 257.6 $\mu$V). Conclusion: Kinesio taping has an immediate effect on improvement of the vastus medialis obliquus muscle activity. The muscle activity continues to improve 24 hours after kinesio taping application</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Izhodišča: Pacienti imajo po vstavitvi kolenske endoproteze po resekciji tumorja v distalnem delu stegnenice zmanjšano mišično jakost štiriglave stegenske mišice. Namen raziskave je bil ugotoviti, ali namestitev elastičnega lepilnega traku poveča aktivnost mišice vastus medialis oblikus pri teh pacientih. Metode: Elastični lepilni trak smo namestili pri osmih pacientih (3 moški in 5 žensk), povprečno starih 43 let (razpon od 20 do 60 let) na mišico vastus medialis oblikus in merili površinsko električno napetost z elektromiografijo. Prva meritev je bila opravljena pred namestitvijo traku, druga 10 minut po namestitvi, tretja čez 1 uro in četrta 24 ur po namestitvi elastičnega lepilnega traku. Rezultati: Po namestitvi elastičnega lepilnega traku je prišlo do statistično značilnega izboljšanja aktivacije mišice vastus medialis oblikus. Povprečna vrednost površinske električne napetosti mišice je bila pri pacientih 10 minut po namestitvi 94,7 $\mu$V (razpon 27,6 - 184,8 $\mu$V), eno uro po namestitvi je bila 98,7 $\mu$V (razpon 37,5 - 214,4 $\mu$V), pri meritvi po 24 urah pa je bila 118,4 $\mu$V (razpon 40,6 - 257,6 $\mu$V).
