According to Bandura's theory (1986; 1989), social development has a close connection with physical development, which is under the influence of physical activity. We focused on studying the child in late childhood as they enter the school system and when at the same time organised physical activities mean intensive social development. It was found that physical activity plays an important role in social development. Physical education at school and organised free time physical activities have an important influence on overall social development, the formation of achild's gender role, physical and general self-confidence,independence from their parents and in the formation of a child's position within peer groups. The paper concludes that physical activity has a significant influence in the process of a child's socialisation and, therefore, it must considered when setting up educational, school and sport programmes for children"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Temeljni namen našega preučevanja je bilo ovrednotenje vloge gibalne aktivnosti v otrokovem socialnem razvoju. Socialni razvoj je tesno povezan z gibalnim razvojem (Bandura 1986; Bandura 1989), ta pa je pod neposrednim vplivom gibalnega udejstvovanja. Osredotočili smo se na preučevanje otroka v obdobju poznega otroštva, saj z vstopom v šolski sistem in hkrati s tem v organizirane oblike gibalnih aktivnosti poteka intenziven socialni razvoj. Ugotovili smo, da je otrokova gibalna aktivnost v njegovem socialnem razvoju pomemben dejavnik. Pouk športne vzgoje in organizirane prostočasne gibalne aktivnosti imajo še zlasti pomemben vpliv na oblikovanje otrokove spolne vloge, telesne in splošne samopodobe, osamosvojitev od staršev in otrokov položaj v vrstniških skupinah.
