Raznolika delovna opravila, s katerimi se srečujejo pri svojem delu, so oblikovala poseben lik (\"realni tip\") domoznanca, ki je v eni osebi zbiralec, obdelovalec in posredovalec domoznanskega gradiva in informacij, raziskovalec, publicist, avtor razstav, obiskovalec domoznanskih prireditev in še kaj.
