With the latest development of the rapid prototyping process that operates on the basis of the composition of thin layers (layer manufacturing technology) ideas for building in such a way that real products were realized. Today the laser sintering process is used for the sintering of three types of materials, plastic, metal and sand. Direct laser sintering of steel powders can be used for two main applications: direct laser sintering of tool inserts for injection moulding of plastics and casting of aluminium and direct production of steel components as final products. The paper presents some characteristics of the DMLS process and the possibilities to apply this technology of the Slovenian industry</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Še ne dolgo so bile kot znanstvena fantastika predstavljene tovarne bodočnosti kot ladje, ki bi plule od pristanišča do pristanišča in po naročilu izdelovale izdelke ter jih dostavljale kupcem direktno na dom ob želenem času.Z zadnjim razvojem postopkov hitre izdelave prototipov (RP - Rapid Prototyping) po principu sestavljanja posameznih tankih plasti materiala, pa so ideje, da bi na ta način izdelovali tudi realne izdelke, postale realnost. Postopek laserskega sintranja se danes uporablja za sintranje treh vrst materialov: plastike, kovine in peska. Neposredno sintranje kovinskih prahov (DMLS) pa ima dve glavni uporabi: neposredno izdelavo orodij ali vložkov orodij za brizganje plastike ter tlačno litje barvnih kovin in neposredno izdelavo kovinskih izdelkov ali komponent.
