Although it is a more abstract mathematical concept, it can be introduced in a playful and hands-on way. This paper aims to present to primary school teachers how Grade 4 pupils can acquire basic knowledge of the binary number system. We carried out a set of activities based on the Computer Science Unplugged approach. These activities focused on writing and converting numbers, encoding images and text in binary, and understanding basic computing concepts such as bit, byte, and image resolution. Pupils developed logical thinking and problem-solving skills through practical tasks involving dot cards, coding messages, and creating binary necklaces. The paper is based on the method of participant observation. During the activities, we observed the pupils, documented our observations, and analyzed their work and results together with the pupils. The findings show that pupils successfully developed an understanding of the binary system despite challenges such as mental arithmetic and fine motor skills. The activities positively impacted their attention, accuracy, collaboration, and thinking in other subjects"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Učenčevo razumevanje dvojiškega številskega sistema je ključnega pomena za razvoj računalniškega mišljenja pri učencih. Kljub temu da gre za abstraktnejši matematični koncept, ga je mogoče učencem približati na igriv in praktičen način. Namen in cilj prispevka sta učiteljem osnovne šole predstaviti potek usvajanja osnov dvojiškega številskega sistema v 4. razredu osnovne šole. Z učenci smo izvedli sklop dejavnosti, ki so temeljile na učenju računalništva brez računalnika. Dejavnosti so bile osredotočene na zapisovanje in pretvarjanje števil, kodiranje slik in besedila v dvojiški obliki ter razumevanje osnovnih računalniških pojmov, kot so bit, bajt in ločljivost slike. Učenci so skozi praktične naloge, pri katerih so uporabljali kartice s pikami, kodirali sporočila ter ustvarjali dvojiške ogrlice, razvijali logično mišljenje in reševali problemske naloge. Prispevek temelji na metodi opazovanja z udeležbo. Učence smo med izvajanjem dejavnosti opazovali, beležili svoja opažanja ter skupaj z njimi analizirali njihove izdelke in rezultate. Rezultati kažejo, da so učenci uspešno usvojili razumevanje dvojiškega sistema, kljub izzivom, kot so računanje na pamet in ročne spretnosti.
