Ker se celo specialne knjižnice različnih vrst in iste vrste med seboj razlikujejo, vsebujejo standardi malo kvantitativnih ocen, ampak le opis pozitivnih elementov, prisotnih v nalogah in delovnih postopkih specialnih knjižnic. Šest profilov odličnih ameriških specialnih knjižnic naj bi nekako nadomestilo kvantitativne standarde.
