An extensive open-end exploratory research of national stereotypes has been conducted among students in all former Yugoslav republics. Stereotypes were classifi ed into positive and negative stereotypes. In the absence of a direct experience (as is the example with students), stereotypes can be regarded as manifestations of public opinion, and should be seen as an important behavioural determinant in international economic cooperation. A strong and signifi cant association was found in all countries except Croatia between own national identity and the share of positive/negative stereotypes about others. On the other hand, greater cross-cultural diff erences were not found to be directly linked to a higher share of negative national stereotypes. A moderate correlation was found between public attitudes toward immigrants and exports, but not between public opinion and FDIs"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Namen članka je na podlagi analize vsebin (pozitivni in negativni stereotipi) in raznolikosti nacionalnih stereotipov (vključno z avtostereotipi) o posameznih narodih izpeljati razpravo ter izpostaviti implikacije o vplivanju nacionalnih stereotipov na mednarodne ekonomske odnose, zlasti mednarodno poslovanje slovenskih podjetij na trgih nekdanje Jugoslavije. Pri tem lahko na stereotipe gledamo kot na vidne manifestacije javnega mnenja in pomembne dejavnike vpliva na vedenje ljudi, kar vpliva tudi na mednarodne ekonomske odnose in mednarodno poslovanje. Z vidika testiranja hipotez ne moreva potrditi teze o povezanosti med stopnjami medkulturnih razlik in negativnimi vsebinami stereotipov o pripadnikih posameznih držav nekdanje Jugoslavije, vendar pa lahko večinoma potrdiva povezanost med lastno identiteto ter vsebinami stereotipov o drugih, kjer obstaja le močna diskrepanca na primeru Hrvaške. Pri testiranju povezanosti med javnim mnenjem o tujcih (imigrantih) in negativnimi stereotipi o drugih narodih ugotavljava zmerno visoko in značilno korelacijo med obema.
