Its role exceeds conclusion of an insurance policy; in its role as financial intermediary insurance represents the most efficient way of risk transfer for individuals, businesses, and the society. To understand insurance it is necessary to understand the business model that facilitates risk transfer. Insurance promotes knowledge in a way that helps individuals and the society to mitigate its risks. It promotes long-term prosperity, of which a micro insurance with the aim to diminish poverty around the globe is a good example. Je pomemben mehanizem, ki zagotavlja premoženjsko varnost, finančno in ekonomsko stabilnost ter rast blaginje. Avtorica predstavlja položaj in pomen zavarovalništva v zgodovini in do današnjih dni. Opisuje vlogo zavarovalništva v razmerju do posameznika in družbe. Vloga zavarovalništva presega okvire sklepanja zavarovalnih pogodb. Zavarovalništvo v vlogi finančnega posrednika je najučinkovitejši način prenosa tveganj tako na ravni posameznika, gospodarskih subjektov in družbe. Za razumevanje zavarovalništva je bistveno razumevanje njegovega poslovnega modela, ki lahko opravlja funkcijo takšnega prenosa tveganj. Osnovni posel zavarovalništva so tveganja, iz tega pa izhajajo tudi druge pomembne vloge zavarovalništva.
