While surgery and radiotherapy are local treatment methods, systemic treatment works on the entire organism (except for the central nervous system). Systemic therapies include chemotherapy, targeted treatment (monoclonal antibodies and small molecules, hormone therapy for breast and prostate cancer), immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors and conjugates of monoclonal antibodies and chemotherapeutics"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Najpogosteje se rakava obolenja zdravijo s kirurgijo, radioterapijo in/ali eno izmed metod sistemskega zdravljenja. Vsem je dobro znana kirurgija, kjer se v večini primerov tumor fizično odstrani. Radioterapija ali obsevanje je način uničevanja rakavih celic z notranjim ali zunanjim virom sevanja. Medtem ko sta kirurgija in radioterapija metodi lokalnega zdravljenja, sistemsko zdravljenje deluje na celoten organizem (z izjemo centralnega živčnega sistema).
