They rarely find the right person to turn to. They are afraid to testify in court, one of the reasons being the leniency of courts in Slovenia towards the violators. Legal experts are aware of this and have been trying to change the penal code for years. They also stress that doing time in prison does not have the right effect and that violators should be included in a special programme of treatment. Attempts are directed at opening victim shelters. Pogosto ne najdejo pravega sogovornika, strah jih je pričati na sodišču, med drugim tudi zato, ker so kazni za nasilneže v Sloveniji zelo nizke. Tega se zavedajo tudi strokovni delavci, ki si že vrsto let prizadevajo, da bi spremenili kazenski zakonik. Trdijo tudi, da sedenje v zaporu ne pomaga prav nič, kajti nasilneže bi morali vključiti v poseben program zdravljenja. Poleg tega se trudijo, da bi odprli zavetišča za trpinčene. Ta cilj so si zastavile tudi delavke mariborskega Centra za socialno delo.
