We employed an online questionnaire as a measurement instrument in our research. The survey was conducted among 126 basketball referees of whom 58 officiate in the senior men age category (1st SBL, 2nd SBL, 3rd SBL and 4th SBL), and 68 in younger age categories. The results showed that the oldest and the most experienced referees were, according to the expectations, those from the 1st Slovenian Basketball League (SBL). Of all referees there were slightly more than 8 % of women. The main factor influencing the start of officiating is the desire to stay in touch with basketball after the end of a career in the sport. Those referees who officiate in the 1st and 2nd SBL spend longer on average preparing themselves for a match, take more time to warm up and spend more time analysing their officiating after the match, compared to the referees from the 3rd and 4th SBL. The most attentive referees who are also more consistent in calling the so-called minor violations are those from the 1st SBL, as was also expected. Of all surveyed referees, 41 per cent had not played basketball in the past. Referees mainly agree with the introduction of self-assessment after a match, but do not agree with the adding of a score by coaches and team captainsV raziskavi smo se odločili primerjati košarkarske sodnike različnih sodniških list v Sloveniji oziroma analizirati razlike in podobnosti v nekaterih njihovih značilnostih in dejavnikih, ki po našem mnenju pomembno vplivajo na uspešnost sojenja. Anketiranih je bilo 126 košarkarskih sodnikov, od katerih jih 58 sodi v članski starostni kategoriji (1. SKL, 2. SKL, 3. SKL, 4. SKL), 68 pa v mlajših starostnih kategorijah. Rezultati raziskave so pokazali, da so po pričakovanjih najstarejši in najizkušenejši tisti sodniki, ki sodijo v 1. SKL. Med vsemi sodniki je le nekaj več kot 8 % predstavnic ženskega spola. Glavni dejavnik, ki vpliva na začetek ukvarjanja s sojenjem, je želja ostati v stiku s košarko po končani igralski karieri. Sodniki, ki sodijo 1. in 2. SKL, se v povprečju dlje časa pripravljajo na tekmo, se dlje časa ogrevajo in več časa porabijo za analizo svojega sojenja po tekmi kot sodniki, ki sodijo 3. in 4. SKL. Najbolj pozorni oziroma dosledni pri dosojanju t. i. manj vplivnih prekrškov so pričakovano sodniki, ki sodijo v 1. SKL. 41 % vseh anketiranih sodnikov se v preteklosti ni ukvarjalo z igranjem košarke.
