Pri rabi ognja se je posluževal različnih tehnik zažiganja gozda. Z vršnim požarom je naravo vzpodbudil k bujnejši rasti, s krčenjem in zažiganjem je trajno pridobival zemljišča za bivanje in pridelavo hrane, s cikličnim požiganjem je zemljišče uporabljal nekaj časa za pridelavo hrane in nato naravi prepustil obnovo gozda.
