The most common sawing methods of coniferous logs are live and cant sawing. In the present study we compared both sawing methods. Quantity and quality yield and the average variable costs of sawing were compared. To determine which sawing method achieves a higher contribution margin ratio of fixed costs and profits \"direct costing method\" was used. Na stroške ima poleg stroška surovine razpoložljiva tehnologija izjemno velik vpliv. Najpogostejša načina razžagovanja hlodov iglavcev sta razžagovanje v enkratnem prehodu in prizmiranje. Analizirali smo razžagovanje smrekovih hlodov treh različnih debelinskih razredov z dvema različnima načinoma razžagovanja v enake končne izdelke in nato primerjali povprečne količinske in vrednostne izkoristke ter povprečne variabilne stroške izdelave izdelkov. Z uporabo metode \"kalkulacija po variabilnih stroških\" smo želeli ugotoviti, kateri način razžagovanja izbrane surovine v želeni končni proizvod dosega višjo stopnjo pokritja fiksnih stroškov in dobička. Rezultati so pokazali, da surovina prvega debelinskega razreda ni primerna za razžagovanje v želen izdelek, ne glede na način žaganja, saj je stopnja pokritja negativna.
