Sprememba imena je bila povezana s tem, ker časnik ni bil namenjen le Ljubljani temveč bralcem celotne pokrajine pod Ilirskimi provincami. Čeprav je bil pisan večinoma v nemškem jeziku, je bil pomemben za razvoj slovenske kulture in jezika.
