The occurrence and temporal disribution of dinoflagellate Alexandrium spp., together with environmental conditions in inshore waters, were reported monthly to biweekly from 1994 to 1996. No blooms occurred, but in May 1994 4200 cells I-1 of Alexandrium species were found along the southeastern side of the Gulf, while on the northwestern side densites up to 4000 cells I-1 peaked in July 1995.
