Language is not only a means of communication, but also an important part of identity and a foundation for establishing feelings of belonging among migrant children in a new environment. The paper is based on the analysis of interviews with school staff and policy documents addressing inclusion within the Slovenian education system. It examines adults` perspectives on four key themes identified as relevant in relation to language and inclusion in the school environment: responsibility for inclusion, othering, simultaneous practices of inclusion and exclusion, and children as linguistic and cultural mediators. The findings reveal a gap between existing policies and practices regarding language and the inclusion of migrant children. While official documents emphasize integration and equal opportunities as a collective responsibility of the entire school community, in practice, the burden of (linguistic) integration often falls primarily on migrant children themselves</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Prispevek naslavlja vključevanje priseljenih otrok v slovenskih šolah s poudarkom na jeziku kot osrednjem orodju vključevanja. Jezik ni le sredstvo za sporazumevanje, temveč je tudi pomemben del identitete in sredstvo za vzpostavljanje občutij pripadnosti priseljenih otrok v novem okolju. Prispevek izhaja iz analize intervjujev s šolskim osebjem in dokumentov, ki obravnavajo vključevanje v šolskem okolju na ravni obstoječih slovenskih politik. Predstavljeni so pogledi odraslih na štiri teme, ki so bile prepoznane kot relevantne v povezavi z jezikom in vključevanjem v šolskem okolju: odgovornost za vključevanje, drugačenje, hkratne prakse vključevanja in izključevanja ter otroci kot jezikovni in kulturni posredniki. Rezultati kažejo na razkorak med obstoječimi politikami, in praksami v povezavi z jezikom in vključevanjem priseljenih otrok.
