Frail and medically compromised older people were seldom involved in research although they are especially vulnerable population and at most risk of abuse. The review of literature leads to the assumption that frail elderly adults more commonly fall victim to abuse in home rather than residential settings since family members are major perpetrators of elder abuse. The purpose of the present study was to determine and compare the extent of the frail elderly abuse in the clients' domestic environment and in residential settings. Methods: A cross-sectional research design was applied by use of a structured questionnaire. Participating in the study were older people (65 years of age or more) who were dependent in the activities of daily living (n=202). Results: The results of the study indicate that the domestic abuse of the frail elderly is more common than institutional elder abuse. The difference was especially evident in cases of physical and financial abuse. Participants reported domestic physical abuse in 43.9% and financial abuse in 81.6%, whereas institutional physical elder abuse was reported in 9.6% and financial abuse in 34.6%. Statistically significant difference was determined also in the domain of emotional or psychological abuse, yet the difference was no so pronounced (93.9% of domestic and 63.5% of institutional elder abuse). Discussion and conclusion: Results of the study confirm the general assumptionthat institutionalised accommodation offers protection for frail older people from physical and financial abuse. It is of vital importance that community nurses are vigilant for risk factors and signs of frail elder abuse in their patients' home environments</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Izhodišča: Nasilje nad starejšimi se je v preteklosti že pogosto raziskovalo, vendar je raziskav še vedno premalo, da bi se lahko določil obseg problema. Preiskovanci v domačem okolju so navedli 43,9 % fizičnega in 81,6 % ekonomskega nasilja, preiskovanci v domovih starejših občanov 9,6 % fizičnega in 34,6 % ekonomskega nasilja. Tudi v primeru psihičnega nasilja se je pokazala statistično pomembna razlika, vendarodstotna razlika ni bila tako zelo očitna (93,9 % v domačem okolju in 63,5 % v domovih starejših občanov). Diskusija in zaključki: Rezultati raziskave podpirajo splošno prepričanje, da so starejši slabega zdravja bolj varni v institucionalnem varstvu, še posebej pred fizičnim in ekonomskim nasiljem. Patronažne medicinske sestre bi morale posvetiti posebej veliko pozornost temu, v kakšnih družinskih razmerah živijo starejši ljudje, ki so odvisni v osnovnih življenjskih aktivnostih</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:doc-9HHC8JLV"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:doc-9HHC8JLV" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:doc-9HHC8JLV/a30bb3b8-0923-46d3-a08d-0e1e7e6f2dfc/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Zbornica zdravstvene in babiške nege Slovenije - Zveza strokovnih društev medicinskih sester, babic in zdravstvenih tehnikov Slovenije</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:doc-9HHC8JLV/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-9HHC8JLV" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
