They have explained how there can be phase transitions without any symmetry breaking in two-dimensional systems hosting vortex excitations, how the quantized conductance in quantum Hall systems reflects the topology of the occupied states, and how differ spin chains with integer and half-integer spin</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Nobelova nagrada za fiziko je bila podeljena trem teoretičnim fizikom, ki so s koncepti in orodji iz topologije kot prvi ugotovili, da se lahko različne faze snovi med seboj razlikujejo ne le po svojih simetrijskih lastnostih, temveč tudi po topološkem redu.
