The findings of the survey have also proved to be efficiently used in educational activities with students of translation studies. Even more so than any other terms, toponyms are associated with places and landscapes, as we use them in an attempt to name the concepts interlacing historical, cultural and social threads that belong to the collective as well as individual memory. Therefore, it would be a mistake to expect that drawing up and editing a dictionary of toponyms, if they appear in translations or foreign language texts, is a task to be completed solely on behalf of the target language and culture. The present contribution aims to analyse the examples of inadequate or less appropriate translation solutions by drawing attention to some particular problems and hint at the possible strategies that may come useful in translating foreign language toponymsEtwa 35 Jahre nach der ersten Auflage des ersten und bis heute einzigen systematischen Werkes zur Übersetzung slowenischer Toponyme ins Deutsche ist die Zeit reif, die inzwischen sehr zahl- und umfangreichen touristischen Gebrauchsanweisungen auf ihren Umgang mit kulturspezifischem Material zu untersuchen, sie im Bereich der Toponomastik dem bisherigen Wissensstand gegenüberzustellen und auf Regelmäßigkeiten und Fehler im Gebrauch aufmerksam zu machen, die sich in der Übersetzerausbildung als pädagogisch wertvoll, nützlich und anschaulich erweisen könnten. Toponyme sind noch mehr als andere Realien an feste Orte und Landschaften gebunden, an denen der direkte Bezug auf das zu benennende Objekt historisch, kulturell und gesellschaftlich sowohl im kollektiven als auch individuellen Gedächtnis verankert ist. Es wäre falsch zu erwarten, dass der Aufbau und die Pflege des eigenen Toponomastikons, sofern es in Übersetzungen oder fremdsprachigen Texten vorkommt, alleine der Zielsprache und -kultur obliegt. Einen solchen Versuch bietet dieser Aufsatz, indem an einigen Beispielen gelungene wie misslungene Lösungen, typische Aufgabenstellungen und Strategien beim Umgang mit fremdsprachlichen Toponymen aufgezeigt wurdenDobrih 35 let po izdaji prvega in do danes edinega sistematičnega dela, posvečenega prevajanju slovenskih toponimov v nemščino, je treba na novo analizirati rabo kulturnospecifičnih izrazov v turističnih vodnikih po Sloveniji, primerjati rabo toponimov z dognanji prevodne stroke ter opozoriti na neustrezne prevodne rešitve. Izsledke take raziskave je mogoče s pridom uporabiti tudi pri izobraževanju študentov prevajalstva. Toponimi so še bolj kot druge realije vezani na kraje in pokrajine; z njimi namreč skušamo poimenovati pojme, v katerih se prepletajo zgodovinske, kulturne in družbene niti tako kolektivnega kot tudi individualnega spomina. Torej bi bilo napačno pričakovati, da je gradnja in urejanje slovarja toponimov, če se le-ti pojavijo v prevodih ali tujejezičnih besedilih, zgolj naloga ciljnega jezika in kulture.
