Most people with rheumatoid arthritis will experience all of these types of pain. Pri terapiji RA je pomembno, da z imunomodulatorji umirimo vnetje, saj tako zmanjšamo ali odpravimo bolečino v vnetem sklepu. Večina bolnikov z RA se sooča s kronično, persistentno bolečino. Pri RA je prisotnih več vrst bolečine: nonciceptivna, nevropatska in psihogena; večina bolnikov v poteku bolezni občuti vse.
