Način vzgoje in varstva utegne v tem obdobju odločilno vplivati na potek tega procesa. Zgodnja separacija in razbijanje diade, ki ni povezano z otrokovim procesom individualizacije, povzroča hude, za razvojno fazo specifične travme, ki utegnejo povzročati razvojne deficite. Za Slovence je dokaj specifično, da otroke zgodaj vključujemo v jaslice.
