Cell regulation of Ca2+ is key for the functioning of organisms. Abnormal regulation of calcium ion concentration in cells causes a large number of diseases. This is why it is important to understand how cells regulate Ca2+ . This paper describes the basic physical mechanisms which cause changes of calcium ion concentration in cells and how cells use calcium waves for communication. A simplified mathematical model of Ca2+ regulation and diffusion is also presented"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Val kalcijevih ionov predstavlja povečanje koncentracije teh ionov v posamezni celici, ki se širi med sosednjimi celicami. Regulacija Ca2+ v celicah je ključnega pomena za delovanje organizmov. Napačno delovanje mehanizmov, ki nadzirajo koncentracijo kalcijevih ionov, lahko povzroči velik nabor bolezni, zato je pomembno razumeti, kako ta regulacija deluje. V članku so predstavljeni mehanizmi spreminjanja koncentracije Ca2+ v živalskih celicah. Opisani so tudi procesi komunikacije med bližnjimi celicami na podlagi spreminjanja koncentracije kalcijevih ionov.
