Under his leadership Vienna carried through a number of large projects such as the II. water pipeline, great social institutions and schools were built, forest and meadow belt around the city was protected. Lueger was very popular, because he helped the poor. Because Lueger intentionally used antisemitic slogans, emperor Francis Joseph first refused him the confirmation as a mayorPrispevek obravnava Karla Luegerja, župana Dunaja od leta 1897 do smrti 1910, ki velja za enega najuspešnejših županov tega mesta. Pod njegovim vodstvom so na Dunaju uresničili številne velike projekte, npr. II. izvirni vodovod, gradili so velike socialne institucije in šole, zaščitili pa tudi gozdni in travniški pas okoli mesta. Lueger je bil zelo popularen, ker je veliko skrbi posvečal revnim.
