The students' achievement in each of the two domains of literacy was predicted from a set of selected variables which represent some of the students' individual and social characteristics of their home environment. Considering null models, the differences among four secondary school programmes explained 45% and 50% of variance in students' mathematical and reading literacy, respectively. The differences among schools within the same educational programme accounted for additional 14% and 16% of variance in math and reading literacy achievement, respectively. On average, the students of vocational secondary schools scored the lowest and the students attending general and classical gymnasia obtained the highest scores. Concerning the two-level models, the selected predictors accounted for 57% of variance in students' performance in the math domain and for 58% of variance in students' reading literacy. Higher performance in the two domains of literacy, and at both the school and the student level of analysis, was predicted by longer learning time the students spent in corresponding class (math, Slovene), more books in students' home, speaking Slovene at home, shorter time spent on organized learning for the relevant course outside the school class, and less material resources (not directly tied to academic work) in students' home. In math, boys performed somewhat better than girls. Girls, in turn, slightly outperformed boys in the reading literacy domain</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">V prispevku predstavljava rezultate sekundarne analize podatkov PISA 2006 na področju matematične in bralne pismenosti slovenskih dijakov prvih letnikov. Dosežke dijakov na vsakem izmed področij pismenosti sva napovedovali na podlagi izbranih spremenljivk, ki predstavljajo nekatere individualne značilnosti dijakov in njihovega socialnega okolja doma. V modelih brez napovednikov sva z razlikami med štirimi srednješolskimi izobraževalnimi programi pojasnili 45 % variance v matematični pismenosti in 50 % variance v bralni pismenosti dijakov, z razlikami med šolami znotraj teh programov pa 14 % variance v dosežkih pri matematiki in 16 % variance v dosežkih pri bralni pismenosti. V povprečju imajo najnižje dosežke na obeh področjih dijaki poklicnih srednjih šol, najvišje pa dijaki, ki obiskujejo splošne gimnazije. V dvonivojskih modelih sva z izbranimi napovedniki pojasnili 57 % variance dosežkov dijakov na področju matematike in 58 % variance na področju bralne pismenosti. Tako na ravni šol kot tudi na ravni dijakov višje dosežke na obeh obravnavanih področjih dosledno napovedujejo večja poraba časa za učenje pri pouku ustreznega predmeta v šoli (matematike, slovenščine), večje število knjig doma in slovenski pogovorni jezik doma ter manjša poraba časa za organizirano učenje ustreznega predmeta zunaj pouka in manjše število materialnih dobrin doma, ki niso neposredno vezane na učno delo.
