Nurses frequently use the moral theory known as the ethics of care. The ethics of care focuses on the patient and the situation he or she is currently in. Implementation of nursing activities must be carried out within the nursing competencies. Methods: When resolving our ethical dilemma that involved male catheterisation, which is not within the competences of nurses, we decided to use the DECIDE model by Thompson and co-workers. Results: Professional training was carried out, where the participants gained all the necessary knowledge about male catheterisation and developed the required competences. Conclusion: All health care professionals must act in accordance with the law. As experts in our field, we must always strive for ethical, professional and legal responsibilities at different levels of our workIzhodišče: Etična načela morajo biti temelj delovanja slehernega zdravstvenega delavca, ki se pri svojem delu srečuje z različnimi etičnimi problemi. Medicinske sestre najpogosteje uporabljajo etiko skrbi, ki v ospredje postavlja bolnika in situacijo, v kateri se je ta znašel. Izvajanje aktivnosti zdravstvene nege mora biti izvedeno v okviru kompetenc medicinske sestre. Metode: Pri reševanju etične dileme izvajanja katetrizacije moškega, ki ni v okviru kompetenc medicinske sestre/zdravstvenika, smo uporabili model DECIDE po avtorju Thompsonu. Rezultati: Izpeljano je bilo strokovno izobraževanje, na katerem so udeleženci pridobili znanja s področja intermitentne katetrizacije moškega. S tem so jim bile priznane kompetence na tem področju. Zaključek: Vsi zaposleni v zdravstvu morajo ravnati v skladu z zakoni.
