In addition to its structural role as a building block of proteins it serves as a precursor to many biologically active molecules, indirectly influences sleep and wellbeing, and plays an important role in regulating the immune system. Deficiency occurs very rarely; however, it could be used as a dietary supplement to improve mood and sleep quality. Metabolism occurs through the serotonin or kynurenine pathway, and the resulting metabolites may be involved in various diseases, such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, inflammation and infections. Therefore, the enzymes involved in tryptophan metabolism represent potential targets for the development of new drugs</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Triptofan predstavlja eno izmed 20 aminokislin pri človeku, ki jo pridobimo z uravnoteženo prehrano. Poleg strukturne vloge gradnika proteinov služi kot prekurzor številnih biološko aktivnih molekul. Posredno vpliva na spanje in počutje ter ima pomembno posredno vlogo pri uravnavanju imunskega sistema. Do pomanjkanja triptofana pride zelo redko. Encimi, udeleženi v metabolizem triptofana, zato predstavljajo potencialne tarče za razvoj novih učinkovin</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:doc-5NDBZBPV"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:doc-5NDBZBPV" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:doc-5NDBZBPV/1dfc5233-b6e9-46df-b4bd-14fd762d5a0f/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Slovensko farmacevtsko društvo</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:doc-5NDBZBPV/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-5NDBZBPV" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
