Until the establishment of the School for Social Workers in Slovenia in 1955, there were no formally educated social workers despite the fact that the need for social work was great during this period. The roles and tasks of social workers were performed by some officials, functionaries and members of various societies and organizations, nuns, benefactors and also protection nurses. The paper explores what exactly these protection nurses did and how they responded to the needs for socialization of medicine and how they provided a bridge between hospitals and public care. The process of establishing formal education for professionals for social assistance and support is also described"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Prispevek obravnava tematiko socialnega dela med obema svetovnima vojnama oziroma vlogo predhodnic medicinskih sester, zaščitnih sester v socialnem delu v Sloveniji. Do ustanovitve Šole za socialne delavce v Sloveniji let 1955 ni bilo formalno izobraženih socialnih delavcev, čeprav so bile potrebe po socialnem delu v tem obdobju velike. Vloge in naloge socialnih delavcev so zato opravljali nekateri uradniki, funkcionarji in člani raznih društev in organizacij, redovnice, dobrotniki in pa tudi zaščitne sestre. Avtor opisuje, kaj natanko so počele zaščitne sestre in kako so se odzivale na takratne potrebe po socializaciji medicine oziroma kako so zagotavljale most med bolnišnicami in javnim skrbstvom.
