Like other situla art images, scenes of competition have been interpreted mostly in the light of their Greek parallels. The images of horse races, music duels and boxing have been linked to games, competitions, and festivals, as well as to cult and funeral rituals. Similarly, the type of sport duel portrayed on the situlas has been variously identified as wrestling, boxing, or dumb-bell fightingPrve temeljne interpretacije situlske umetnosti sodijo v čas konca 19. stoletja. Od tega obdobja naprej je sledila živahna diskusija o dataciji, izvoru in predvsem pomenu podob, ki se ni polegla vse do danes. Interpretacije prizorov tekmovanj so se podobno kot interpretacije drugih prizorov situlske umetnosti naslonile predvsem na paralele iz Grčije. Konjske dirke, glasbeni dvoboji in boks so podobe situlske umetnosti, ki jih interpretativno povezujejo tako z igrami, tekmovanji in praznovanji, kot tudi s kultnimi in pogrebnimi običaji.
