Avtorica v prispevku predstavi družine skozi prvino raziskovanja. Namen članka je na teoretični ravni predstaviti nekatere posebnosti raziskovanja v zdravstveni negi v primerih, ko so v raziskave vključene družine. Predstavljene so smernice Mednarodnega sveta medicinskih sester, izhodišča, ki naj usmerjajo raziskovanje v družinah, omejitve raziskovanja v družinah in nekatere temeljnezahteve za izvajanje raziskav. Teoretična izhodiŠča podpre avtorica z rezultati raziskave v družinah v kliničnem okolju.
