In rehabilitation, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is used to improve sensorimotor functions. The purpose of this literature review was to investigate the effects of high-frequency TENS on walking speed in patients after stroke. Methods: The literature search was performed in the PubMed, PEDro, Cochrane Library, Embase, and CINAHL databases. In addition, the reference lists of included studies were reviewed. Randomised controlled trials that investigated the effects of TENS on walking speed of patients after stroke were included in the review. Results: Five studies that used TENS at rest in subacute and/or chronic stroke patients were included. Three studies found statistically significantly greater improvement in walking speed in the group of patients with TENS followed by conventional training compared with the groups of patients with TENS alone, placebo TENS followed by conventional training, or without treatment. Conclusion: Based on the reviewed literature, it appears that TENS for at least 30 minutes followed by functional training is an effective intervention to improve walking speed in patients with chronic stroke, whereas TENS alone is not effective. High-quality studies are needed to draw firm conclusions about the effectiveness of TENS in combination with training in the subacute phase after stroke</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Uvod: Pri pacientih po možganski kapi je hitrost hoje pogosto znižana. Za oblikovanje trdnih zaključkov o učinkovitosti TENS v kombinaciji s standardno vadbo pri pacientih v subakutnem obdobju po možganski kapi so potrebne raziskave visoke kakovosti</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:doc-4IU96EWF"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:doc-4IU96EWF" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:doc-4IU96EWF/b8f466bf-c46c-46d6-91cd-fa3bb93de9b8/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Univerzitetni rehabilitacijski inštitut RS – Soča</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:doc-4IU96EWF/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-4IU96EWF" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
