The role of Slovene language as the heritage language was seen in communication and in symbolic level. The analysis of folk songs from the legacy of dr. France Cigan is based on the intertextual comparison of variants of folk songs from Prekmurje and shows the differences between them. While reproducting they were spontaneously using intertextual references and preserving language constituents on fonetic, lexical and morfhological level of language"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Članek obravnava vlogo ljudske pesmi iz Prekmurja kot enega od dejavnikov ohranjanja slovenščine v slovenski skupnosti v Torontu v 50. in 60. letih prejšnjega stoletja. Raba slovenščine kot dediščinskega jezika se je izkazovala tako na sporazumevalni kot tudi na simbolni ravni. Analiza izbranih ljudskih pesmi iz zapuščine dr. Franceta Cigana temelji na medbesedilni primerjavi variant ljudskih pesmi iz Prekmurja in prikazuje razlike med njimi.
