V grobem ločimo uporovne in kapacitativne senzorje. Kot material za izdelavo senzorjev uporabljajo različne soli, v zadnjem času papredvsem keramične in polimerne materiale. V delu predstavljamo kapacitativni polimerni senzor vlage. Glavne prednosti takega senzorja so majhne dimenzije, velika občutljivost, kratek reakcijski čas, majhen temperaturni koeficient in skoraj zanemarljiv vpliv pretoka zraka na meritev.
