It mostly affects younger adults, which includes most professional and recreational athletes. The beneficial effects of exercise training in AS have been known for many years, but there are few studies examining the effect of aerobic training on AS symptoms. The aim of our systematic review was to determine the effectiveness of aerobic exercise training on symptom management in individuals with AS. We searched the literature on the PubMed, Medline, CINAHL and Cochrane Library databases, combining the following keywords: ankylosing spondylitis, aerobic training, exercise and activity. We included randomised controlled trials, with at least one experimental group receiving aerobic exercise, regardless of the type, duration and intensity of exercise, and a control group receiving different type of treatment or no intervention. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, six studies were finally included in this review. Aerobic exercise was associated with a beneficial effect on reducing disease activity, improving spinal mobility and reducing pain. However, due to a high heterogeneity and few high-quality studies, definite conclusions regarding athletes with AS could not be drawn. To establish clear clinical guidelines, we need high quality studies, with a larger sample of subjects, investigating the long-term effects of aerobic exercise</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Ankilozirajoči spondilitis (AS) sodi med najpogostejše vnetne revmatične bolezni. Literaturo smo iskali v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, Medline, CINAHL in Cochrane Library s kombinacijo naslednjih ključnih besed: ankylosing spondylitis, aerobic training, exercise in activity. Za določitev jasnih smernic potrebujemo kakovostne raziskave z večjim vzorcem preiskovancem, ki bodo proučevale dolgoročne učinke aerobne vadbe</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:doc-3F7FD56U"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:doc-3F7FD56U" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:doc-3F7FD56U/3afc7fdb-de64-4dbb-97c9-e11445b8b642/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Univerza v Ljubljani, Fakulteta za šport</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:doc-3F7FD56U/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-3F7FD56U" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
