In residential buildings, these products are used to reduce the concentration of unpleasant odours and in public buildings to increase the working efficiency. The purpose of this paper is to systematically review the literature in order to examine the types of air aromatization products in buildings and indirectly assess the potential impact on the health of users. The first studies on the effects of natural essential oils on the human organism have emerged in the early 1990ies and showed that exposure to natural essential oils have many positive effects. However, some natural essential oils may contain potential allergens and form harmful secondary air pollutants. Especially problematic are air fresheners that may have adverse health effects, such as respiratory irritation, asthma, nausea, headaches and many other symptoms. If rooms are not enough ventilated,the aromatization of air only masks the unpleasant odour, but air quality remains more or less unchanged or even worse than it was. To improve the indoor air quality it is therefore necessary to use a set of measures, such as effective ventilation, the removal of potential sources of pollution and the safe use of products. Fragrances of natural essential oils should only be used when their composition in known, taking into account the specifics of occupants, safety warnings, and the instructions for safe use"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"V notranjih prostorih se danes uporabljajo sredstva za odišavljanje zraka, med katera prištevamo osvežilce zraka in eterična olja. V bivalnih prostorih se sredstva za odišavljanje zraka uporabljajo za prekritje neprijetnih vonjav, v javnih objektih pa se v zadnjem času uveljavljajo tudi za dvig storilnosti zaposlenih. Namen članka je s sistematičnim pregledom literature preučiti vrste sredstev za odišavljanje zraka v stavbah in posredno oceniti možne učinke na zdravje uporabnikov. Prve študije o učinkih naravnih eteričnih olj na organizem so se pojavile v začetku devetdesetih let prejšnjega stoletja in dokazale, da ima izpostavljenost vonjavam naravnih eteričnih olj številne pozitivne učinke na organizem. Vendar pa nekatere vonjave naravnih eteričnih olj lahko vsebujejo potencialno alergene snovi in tvorijo zdravju škodljive sekundarne onesnaževalce zraka. Posebno problematični so osvežilci zraka, ki imajo lahko negativen učinek na zdravje uporabnikov. Ti se najpogosteje odražajo kot draženje dihalnih poti, astma, slabost, glavoboli in s številnimi drugimi simptomi. Če prostorov ne prezračujemo dovolj, sredstva za odišavljanje zraka le odpravijo ali prekrijejo neprijeten vonj, kakovost zraka pa ostane bolj ali manj nespremenjena oziroma se celo poslabša. Za izboljšanje kakovosti notranjega zraka so zato potrebni celoviti ukrepi na ravni učinkovitega prezračevanja, odstranitvi možnih virov onesnaževanja in varno uporabo sredstev za odišavljanje.
