The main advantage of gene-based medicines is in targeting a molecular defect of treated pathogenesis. Current methods of gene delivery are still inadequate for successful applications and high efficiencies, causing unwanted toxicity and immune reactions. Genetic disorders that arise from mutations in a single gene are the best candidates for gene therapy. Gene therapy of Alzheimerćs disease attracts a vast interest of researchers as well as geriatric population"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Genska zdravila so terapevtiki, ki vsebujejo rekombinanten genski material v obliki fragmentov nukleinskih kislin in se uporabljajo za nadomestitev genskega produkta ali za iznioeenje njegove funkcije. Prednost terapije z genskimi zdravili je v vzrooenem pristopu k zdravljenju,pri katerem odpravljamo molekularno motnjo z dodajanjem ali odvzemanjem funkcije ciljnemu genu. Najoibkejoa tooeka pri razvoju genskih zdravil je neuspeoen transportni sistem, kar je vzrok slabemu ciljanju, toksioenosti in kratkotrajnosti terapije ter pojavu imunskih reakcij. Zaoeetki razvoja genske terapije so biliusmerjeni predvsem v nadomestno terapijo monogenskih dednih bolezni, medtem ko je veoeina novih genskih zdravil namenjena zdravljenju kompleksnih obolenj kot so rak, imunska obolenja in nevrodegenerativne bolezni. Genska regulacije delovanja celic pri starostnikih je usmerjena predvsem v dvig kvalitete aivljenja.
