The purpose is to encourage the targeted research of some aspects of bindings from the pre-Baroque period, aiming to eliminate still persisting grey zones. Among the goals are above all the comprehensive terminological vocabulary, based on development of historical binding structures, a catalogue of blind tools, and a systematic survey of limp-bindings. The paper points out the documentary value of older bindings, which also contain original historical notices, names of binders, locations, dates etc. being important sources in the field of book-anthropology. It shortly presents traditional misconceptions of the aesthetics of bindings, resulting from an evaluation based on a small sample size of bindings, or caused by uncritical repetition of impressions, existing in older bibliography"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Članek temelji na ugotovitvah, ki so se izoblikovale ob pregledu številnih knjižnih vezav do sredine 16. stoletja. Upoštevani oziroma obravnavani rokopisi in zgodnji tiski so predvsem iz slovenskih knjižnic in arhivov, slovenskih provenienc v tujini ali pa so z našimi lokacijami kulturnozgodovinsko povezani. Namen članka je spodbuditi ciljno raziskovanje nekaterih poglavij vezav predbaročnega časa (do 1550), ki bi ob načrtnem delu lahko odpravilo še vedno moteče sive cone. Med zaželenimi cilji so predvsem pridobitev razvojno utemeljene terminologije, kataloga knjigoveških pečatnikov ter sistematična obravnava tako imenovanih mehkih vezav. Članek opozarja na dokumentarno vrednost starejših knjižnih vezav, ki vsebujejo izvirne zgodovinske podatke, imena knjigovezov, lokacij, letnice itd. ter so pomembni viri za antropologijo knjige.
