With the elements of control, competence and activity it is also closely related to the holistic definition and approach to health promotion as defined by the World Health Organization, where health promotion is possible through a process of people taking more control over their decisions and actions affecting their health. Presented studies bring evidence about the most often defined components of empowerment: competence, self-determination, meaning, impact, positive self identity and group orientation. The lack of measures in this area causes lack of research. This is partially resulting from immaturity of the concept of empowerment itself.
