In this article we focus on the determinants of eating behavior and on eating as a motive. We discuss diff erent models of food choice: developmental, cognitive and psychophysiological. We describe the role of learning in the eating process and the relation between food and emotions, concentrating on emotional eating. Th rough all the chapters we relate to the issue of healthy eating and the importance of it to an individual's optimal mental and physical functioning"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Človekovo prehranjevanje je postalo predmet znanstvenega preučevanja šele pred nekaj desetletji. V prispevku se osredotočamo na determinante, ki določajo prehranjevalno vedenje ter na vlogo prehranjevanja kot motiva. Obravnavamo različne modele izbire hrane: razvojne, kognitivne in psihofiziološke. Opisujemo vlogo učenja v procesu prehranjevanja ter povezanost med hrano in čustvi, v okviru česar se osredotočamo predvsem na emocionalno hranjenje.
