The athlete is solely responsible for all the substances that enter his/her body. The most common causes are the consumption of contaminated nutritional supplements, contaminated foods or drinks, passive inhalation of psychoactive substances, lack of therapeutic use exemption for medical treatment, and the consumption of over-the-counter drugs, which can contain a prohibited substance. Most of these errors can be prevented by appropriate preventive measures. Športnik je sam odgovoren za vse snovi, ki pridejo v njegovo telo. Najpogostejši vzroki za nenamerni doping so uživanje kontaminiranih prehranskih dopolnil, kontaminirana hrana ali pijača, pasivna inhalacija psihoaktivnih snovi, neurejena terapevtska izjema za zdravljenje ter uporaba zdravil v prosti prodaji, ki vsebujejo prepovedano snov.
