Bearing capacity of environment depends on the water quantity, due to rather modest regeneration capabilites of water. During the period of higher water level, when Cerkniško polje is partly covered with Cerkniško jezero, the self-cleaning capabilities of water are better, and during the periods of lower water level the whole polje is showing unfavourable characteristics of the karst water. Nosilnost okolja je zaradi načeloma skromnih regeneracijskih sposobnosti voda, odvisna od količine vode. Ob višjem vodnem stanju, ko del Cerkniškega polja prekriva presihajoče Cerkniško jezero, so samočistilne sposobnosti vode boljše, ob nižjem pa se na celotnem polju kažejo neugodne lastnosti kraških voda.
