In the last few years due to the proliferation of digital archives increased attention has been given to metadata for long-term preservation. These metadata provide information important for accessing electronic resources in the future. The paper presents the role and function of metadata for long-term preservation in electronic archives according to the OAIS model. Zaradi naraščanja števila digitalnih arhivov se v zadnjih letih vse večjo pozornost posveča metapodatkom za trajno ohranjanje, ki naj bi omogočili dostop do elektronskih virov tudi v prihodnosti. Namen tega prispevka je predstaviti pomen in funkcijo metapodatkov za trajno ohranjanje v okviru elektronskega arhiva, ki sledi modelu OAIS.
