V jedru takšnega pojmovanja je okoliščina, da Heidegger možnosti ne razume kot modalne kategorije, ki je v logičnem smislu nasprotna nujnosti in v ontološkem smislu nasprotna realnosti. Heideggra zanima možnost kot taka, se pravi, možnost kot »realna možnost«. Članek pokaže, da to pojmovanje temelji na Heideggrovi analizi smrti. Kot »možnost popolne tubitne nemožnosti« je smrt poslednja, neizogibna in najnotrišnja možnost slehernega človeškega bitja.
