The political and symbolic impact of this event was notable as it brought together authors from all over the world, both from the Eastern and Western Bloc. Miguel Ángel Asturias and Pablo Neruda were two of the most prominent participants in the event, the former also as a candidate for the presidency of the International PEN.The article focuses on the significance of the participation of these two Latin American authors in the specific political-cultural context of the 1960s in which this congress was conceived and held: the second phase of the cultural Cold War, the positioning of Yugoslavia as a Non-Aligned state and the prevailing political situation in Latin America. The objective of this research is to demonstrate that the International PEN Congress had not only a cultural and intellectual dimension, but also a political one, especially regarding the role and interest of the CIA in the organization of this meetingJulija 1965 je bil na Bledu 33. Politični in simbolni pomen tega dogodka je bil izjemno velik, saj je združil avtorje z vsega sveta, iz vzhodnih in zahodnih držav. Miguel Ángel Asturias in Pablo Neruda sta bila dva od najuglednejših udeležencev, prvi tudi v vlogi kandidata za predsednika Mednarodnega PEN. Prispevek se osredotoča na pomen udeležbe teh dveh latinskoameriških avtorjev v specifičnem politično-kulturnem kontekstu 60. let, v katerem je bil kongres zasnovan in izpeljan: druga etapa kulturne hladne vojne, mednarodni položaj Jugoslavije kot neuvrščene države in razmere v Latinski Ameriki. Miguel Ángel Asturias y Pablo Neruda fueron dos de los más destacados, el primero también en calidad de candidato para la presidencia del PEN Internacional. El artículo se centra en la trascendencia de la participación de estos dos autores latinoamericanos en el contexto específico político-cultural de los anos 60 en el que se ideó y llevó a cabo dicho congreso, esto es, la segunda etapa de la Guerra Fría cultural, el posicionamiento de Yugoslavia como País No Alineado y la situación en América Latina.
