The main indoor sources are construction products and wooden furniture, paints, adhesives, varnishes, floor finishes, disinfectants, cleaning agents and other household products. Numerous indoor sources and insufficient ventilation often result in higher formaldehyde levels and adverse health effects. The occurrence of formaldehydein indoor air and its adverse health effects were analysed with systematic literature review. The main focus was on the legal provisions for construction products, limitations of the content of formaldehyde in products,exposure limits for formaldehyde in indoor air, the impact of the product life cycle on the emission rates and its influencing factors. Based onthe findings, recommendations for prevention against adverse health effects of formaldehyde in the built environment were defined. Relevant literature wassearched in 13 bibliographical and factographical databases and other relevant web pages. The studies showed that indoor concentrations often exceedthose of outdoors. The majority of studies addressed the problem of formaldehyde in residential buildings, where emissions were closely related tothe age of the indoor source, the type of the material, efficiency of HVAC systems, microclimate conditions and the presence of secondary sources of air pollution. Measured concentrations in the analysed studies often exceed the exposure limits and may cause adverse health effects. Measures that include the entire life cycle of the product should be implemented. The production phase should be oriented towards health and environment friendly alternatives.All constructional products have to be under permanent supervision. The use of low-emitting materials presents the most important risk reduction strategy. All the above measures have to be supported by legislation</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Formaldehid je pomemben onesnaževalec notranjega zraka stavb. Prisoten je v gradbenih proizvodih in opremi iz lesa, v barvah, premazih, lakih, sredstvih za razkuževanje in čiščenje ter v predmetih za splošno uporabo. Zaradi številnih notranjih virov in nezadostnega prezračevanja koncentracije formaldehida v notranjem zraku stavb pogosto doseže vrednosti, ki pri uporabnikih lahko povzročajo negativen vpliv na zdravje. S sistematičnim pregledom literature smo preučili razširjenost pojavljanja formaldehida v notranjem zraku stavb in posredno ocenili možen vpliv na zdravje uporabnikov. Analizirali smo zakonska določila glede vsebnosti formaldehida v gradbenih proizvodih, mejne vrednosti emisij formaldehida v bivalnem in delovnem okolju,vpliv življenjskega cikla gradbenega proizvoda z vplivnimi parametri naemisije formaldehida. Na osnovi ugotovitev smo predlagali ukrepe, s katerimi preprečimo ali omejimo možen negativen vpliv formaldehida na uporabnike grajenega okolja. Sistematični pregled literature smo opravili v trinajstih iskalnih bibliografskih in faktografskih bazah podatkov in na drugih spletnih naslovih. Pregled študij je pokazal, da koncentracije formaldehida v notranjem zraku pogosto presežejo zunanje vrednosti. Glavnina študij obravnava problem formaldehida v stanovanjskih stavbah, v katerih je koncentracija odvisna od starosti vira, vrste materialov, načina ogrevanja in prezračevanja, mikroklimatskih razmer in prisotnosti sekundarnih virov. Koncentracije, izmerjene v številnih študijah, so presegle predpisane ali priporočene mejne vrednosti, kar lahko pri izpostavljenih ljudeh povzroča negativne vplive na zdravje. Za preprečevanje emisij formaldehida je treba izpeljati ukrepe, ki se nanašajo na celoten življenjski cikel proizvoda. Pri proizvodnji je treba poiskati zdravju in okolju ustreznejše alternative. Nadzor nad izdelki naj bo stalen. Izbor gradbenih proizvodov in opreme, ki so nizko emisijski, je tudi glavni ukrep za doseganje dobre kvalitete notranjega zraka in učinkovitega zmanjševanja tveganja zaradi izpostavljenosti onesnaževalcem.
